Local SEO That Puts You in the Map Pack, Where US Customers Actually Choose

When an American homeowner needs a dentist, a contractor, or a roofer, the search ends in the same place: the Google Map Pack and the top organic results for their city. Local SEO runs on different physics than national SEO: proximity, reviews, Google Business Profile signals, and city-level content decide who gets the call.

I run local SEO for US service businesses with the same revenue discipline as everything else I do: not rankings for their own sake, but calls, booked jobs, and patients in chairs, tracked and attributed. My US clients also get an overnight-turnaround bonus from the time zones.

What's Included

The Full US Local SEO Stack

Six workstreams, one goal: your phone ringing with booked business.

Google Business Profile domination

Categories, services, photos, posts, Q&A, and the review velocity strategy that moves Map Pack rankings. Your GBP is your real homepage in local search; most businesses treat it as a listing.

Reviews as a system

A repeatable ask-and-respond process building review count, recency, and keyword-rich responses, the trust signals both Google and customers weigh most.

City and service-area pages

Location pages with real local substance: projects, teams, and area specifics. Not the doorway-page template that gets filtered.

Citations and local links

Consistent NAP across the ecosystem, plus links from local chambers, suppliers, and community involvement national competitors cannot replicate.

Local content strategy

Content answering what your local customers actually ask, seasonal and city-specific, feeding organic rankings and AI assistant answers alike.

Call and lead tracking

Call tracking, form attribution, and GBP insights wired together so every ranking gain is measured in booked business.

Vertical Specialisms

Deep Work in Three US Verticals

Local SEO rewards vertical depth: keywords, seasons, and buying psychology differ completely between a dental chair and a storm-damaged roof.

The Method

How a Local Engagement Runs

The same sequence every time, because it works every time.

1
Baseline and audit
GBP state, review standing versus the three competitors around you, citation consistency, and current rankings across your service area. Two weeks to a full map.
2
Foundation fixes
Profile rebuild, citation cleanup, review system installed, tracking wired. The unglamorous month that every later gain stands on.
3
Content and coverage
Service pages, city pages, and local content shipped in priority order: highest-value services in highest-value areas first.
4
Compound and defend
Monthly review velocity, fresh local content, and position defense. Local SEO is a moat that deepens; the work shifts from building to compounding.
Common Questions

Local SEO Questions

How long until the Map Pack moves?

GBP and review improvements often show within 6 to 10 weeks. Competitive metros take longer for organic city terms, 4 to 8 months. Both outlast any ad campaign you could buy with the same budget.

Do you work with businesses in other countries?

Yes, and it is a non-issue in practice: local SEO is research, content, GBP management, and technical execution, all remote-friendly. Overnight turnaround comes free with the time zones.

What does it cost?

Engagements are scoped to market competitiveness and service area size. One conversation gives you a number; the audit gives you the plan either way.

What Moves Local

The Levers That Decide Local Rankings

Local search runs on different signals from national SEO, and the profile often ranks before your website does.

Google Business Profile

The single biggest lever. Complete categories, services, hours, photos and posts, maintained rather than filled in once. For many local queries the profile ranks above every website, so a neglected profile caps everything else.

Reviews, in volume and freshness

Among the strongest local ranking and conversion signals. A steady flow of recent, genuine reviews with thoughtful responses moves local visibility more reliably than almost any on-site change.

Service and location pages

Each core service deserves its own page targeting how people actually search for it, with pricing where possible, FAQs, and an obvious way to book. One page covering everything ranks for nothing specific.

Consistent local signals

Name, address and phone consistent everywhere they appear, plus local relevance in your content. Inconsistency quietly suppresses local rankings and is common after any rebrand or move.

The local SEO checklist:

  • A complete, actively maintained Google Business Profile with correct categories and services
  • A review generation habit, not a one-off push, with responses to both praise and complaints
  • A dedicated, well-structured page per core service, built to convert as well as rank
  • Consistent name, address and phone across the site, profile and directories
  • Local content and, where you serve several areas, genuinely unique location pages
  • LocalBusiness structured data with accurate hours, address and service area
Common Questions

Local SEO Questions

What is the most important local SEO factor?

The Google Business Profile and its reviews. For a large share of local queries Google shows a local pack above the organic results, and that pack is driven by profile completeness, category accuracy, proximity and review signals rather than by your website alone.

How long does local SEO take?

Faster than national SEO in most cases. Profile improvements and review growth can show within weeks, and service page rankings typically move within two to four months, because local competition is usually other small businesses rather than large national brands.

Do I need location pages for every area I serve?

Only where you genuinely serve them and can write something specific. Templated location pages with only the city name changed become thin duplicates that compete with each other and underperform a single strong page. Unique local content is what makes them work.

Can I rank in areas where I have no physical address?

It is harder, because proximity is a strong local pack factor, but service-area businesses can build visibility through genuinely useful local content, reviews mentioning those areas, and relevance signals. Expect it to be slower than ranking where you are physically located.
