Google Page Layout Improvements
The logic behind Page Layout algorithm was to improve the English queries only and it affected the website who intended to harvest the “earn only” concept either through Ads or through just-Affiliate mechanism. Usually the websites with the Ad-placements in the first fold were de-ranked.
More than a penalty, Google Page Layout Algorithm change was a typical improvement which affected less than 1% queries and the website affected by these changes were easily able to regain the ranking after basic layout change.

This update is designed to reduce rankings for low-quality sites—sites which are low-value add for users, copy content from other websites or sites that are just not very useful. Panda Update was aimed to target-
1. Website and individual web-pages which were not necessarily spam but were not of great quality.
2. Thin Content Webpages(keyword embedded, UN-necessary and low quality)
3. Site-wide influence (major pages with poor influence leads to complete website penalty)
